Nikolaos Sekouris graduated from the Medical School of the University of Perugia in Italy and specialized in the Ortho- pedic Hospital “ASKLIPIEION VOULA” of Greece. Then he spe- cialized and worked for about two years abroad. He worked as a curator in the Department of Sports Medicine in London Bringe Hospital in London, Department of Spine in Nuffield Orthopedic Centre and Radcliff Hospital, Oxford in England and the Department of Spine Tumors of Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli in Bologna, Italy. He then worked for three years as a Lecturer in Pediatric Orthopedic Department of the Hospital “KAT” in Kifissia. Later he worked for two years as Director of Pediatric Orthopedic Department of the Hospital “Metropolitan” in Neon Faliron, and recently as Director of Pediatric Orthopedic and Spine, in Athens Medical Center.
He is also a clinical associate of Maternity clinic “REA” where he examines the newborns clinically and by ultrasound. Trained and certified in ultrasound of the musculoskeletal system. He prepared his thesis at the Medical School of Athens University on “Cellular response from the tendon sheath sewn into flexor”. He holds the Diplomas BLS, ALS, ATLS, PHTLS, and APLS. He had his postgraduate studies in Prehospital Emergency Medicine.
Regarding the educational project, Dr. Sekouris has published 20 papers in international journals, has presented more than 180 works and 20 lectures in international and Greek conferences of which two have won the best paper award. He is an orthopedic examiner of the European Orthopedic Association proposed by the Greek Orthopedic Society of Athens. Nikolaos Sekouris has pioneered repeatedly in Greek area:
1) He was the first, who applied Apifix system in children with adolescent scoliosis which allows a minimally invasive technique to correct scoliosis without spine intervention.
2) He was the first, who applied the Shilla system in young children with early scoliosis which does not need spine in- tervention and allows to grow.
3) He was the first performed arthroscopic suturing of TFCC of the wrist. Also, he is aware of modern techniques for the treatment of diseases of the spine such as endoscopic dis- cectomy, discectomy with laser, percutaneous discectomy, percutaneous spinal fusion etc.
He also holds a big experience in children dealing with dif- ficult cases such as restoring neglected clubfoot, elongation of long bones in children with dwarfism or Leg length dis- crepancies, functional restoration with tendon transfer in children with cerebral palsy, rehabilitation of multiple fractures in incorrect position with telescopic Fassier-Duval rod, arthroscopic cartilage damage restoration ankle “mosaic plasty” etc.
