Konstantinos I. Papakostas entered Athens Medical School of the University of Athens in 1984 and graduated in 1990. He was also proclaimed Doctor of Medicine in the University of Athens. He specialised entirely abroad for 12 years and speci- fically in New York, Liverpool and Cardiff. During his specialisation, he trained in the full range of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, coming into contact with the modern face of this specialty.
He then received a grant from the Wellcome Trust Research Foundation leading to innovative research in mechanics of the hearing organ, which was concluded successfully by writing a thesis in the field of Neuroscience. Then, through a rigorous selective process,
he was offered a position in the six-year higher surgical training program in Great Britain in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. At this time he specialised in otosurgery, hearing and balance disorders, in paediatric otolaryngology, cosmetic and endoscopic nasal surgery, laryngeal su- rgery and lacrimal apparatus surgery. Throughout the duration of his training there is continuous exposure to the treatment of malignant and benign tumors of the throat, face and neck with surgical resection and/or radiotherapy, with particular emphasis on post-treatment mo- nitoring and functional recovery of patients.
Konstantinos Papakostas progressed gradually to all levels of the British National Health System and in 2005 he was appointed Consultant (Di- rector) at the University Hospital Singleton of Wales. In 2006 he decides to return to Athens, where he has since been engaged in private prac- tice at the Medical Center of Athens. At the same time he has been working with a team of doctors of various specialties covering the com- plete range of treatment of head and neck tumours.
