Athanasios Badekas graduated from the Military Medical School and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1989).
He is specialized in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the University Clinic of KAT (Athens) in 1997 and then after scholarship, he had postgraduate studies in 2000 in Clinical Sports Injuries and Diseases of the Foot and Ankle (Foot and Ankle Fellowship) Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York University and Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore. He was the first Greek Orthopaedic who was trained in this discipline and after his return to Greece he made special interventions such as Total ankle replacement, Posterior tibial tendon transfer for acquired flatfoot, osteotomy SCARF, Ludllof Domestic restoration of hallux valgus (bunion), Weil osteotomy formula for metatarsals, and most other operations such restoration osteochondral lesions ankle using local autograft with a sectional view of the lower foot.
He is a Visiting Professor at the surgical Foot and Ankle of the Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York University.
He served as Director of Clinical Orthopaedic of Foot Ankle in Metropolitan Hospital from 2008 to 2012.
President of the Scientific Committee for European Foot Ankle Society from 2006 to 2012.
Greek President Company Foot Ankle 2007.
Director of Clinical Foot Ankle (Fit Feet) at World Special Olympics Athens 2011 and Director of Lower Extremity Sports Medicine Clinic at the Olympic Games 2004.
He is a founding member of EL.I.OS. (Greek Osteoporosis Foundation).
