ENDOVASCULAR TREATMENT OF VASCULAR DISEASES (EVAR - TEVAR)

Minimally invasive endovascular repair of aneurysms of the Abdominal Aorta, iliac arteries (EVAR) and the Thoracic Aorta (TEVAR)

Aneurysms of the arteries are local bulges of the vessel walls. They are life threatening conditions, as they are often asymptomatic, and thus remain undiagnosed, while their sudden rupture leads to internal bleeding with great mortality.

In order to treat the large artery aneurysms, we place special grafts (stent grafts) which prevent further dilatation of the vessel wall. In this way, when needed, we can exclude the aneurysms of the abdominal and iliac arteries (EVAR) and the thoracic, mainly the descending, aorta (TEVAR). This procedure is realized with the initial placement of specialized wires and catheters, under local or regional anesthesia, with small incisions in the thighs (groin) or even percutaneously. By help of these wires and catheters we introduce and place the endografts, either in the Operating Room with a C-ARM machine, or ideally in a special operating room (vascular surgery suite).

With this minimally invasive technique, we can now treat patients with aneurysms, who would, otherwise, need a more severe procedure, under general anesthesia and possibly need admission in an intensive care unit.

With endovascular methods, we can also provide solutions in most cases of vascular conditions, such as artery stenoses or occlusions (balloon angioplasty with or without stent placement), or even limb varicose veins with laser (laser ablation) or other intravenous procedures. Patients receive a much easier treatment, without major burden in the body, and usually can return to their daily activities immediately or in a few days after the operation.
