The development of biotechnology has given impetus to the area of Urologic Surgery, with emphasis on the subject of robotic and endoscopic surgery.
The development of biotechnology has given impetus in Urologic Surgery, with emphasis on the subject of robotic and endoscopic surgery. Robotic urology deals with minimally invasive methods, wherein the entire procedure is performed through very small skin holes in the abdomen via the Da Vinci robotic system. The robotic arms with very thin tools, are inserted in the patient's abdomen and perform the surgery. The surgeon is seated at a console farther from the patient and his movements are copied with absolute precision and with elimination of the human tremor of hands by the robot through a three-dimensional robotic camera, as if it really takes the surgeon into the abdomen. Many urological surgeries are carried thereby with significant advantages, such precision and ergonomic movements, minimal blood loss, minimal post-operative pain, brief hospitalisation, faster comeback to daily activities. The robotic urology applies primarily to:
Oncology. prostate cancer (with significant benefits in urinary continence and erectile capacity), kidney cancer (especially the partial nephrectomy - maintaining renal unit), bladder carcinoma, lymph node dissection for pelvic lymph node metastases and so on. Congenital urinary tract abnormalities. Syndrome of junction stenosis between renal pelvis and ureter, ureteral transplantation due to congenital strictures or even injuries, large renal cysts, and so on. Gynaecological Urology. Excellent application for genital prolapse in women with organs suspension (cystocele, rectocele, uterine fall). It is the gold standard of treatment.
Endoscopic surgery involves a range of procedures from human holes in the body, especially from the urethra. It has application in the treatment of stone disease anywhere in the urinary tract (kidney, ureter, bladder) with Laser and flexible uretersoscopy, treatment of superficial tumours and birth defects, excellent treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia with Green light Laser and bipolar (Turis), and Bladder papilloma.
