Kyparissia, with many interesting sights, olive groves, turquoise waters, historical monuments and places of inexhaustible natural beauty, compose a unique scene that charms every visitor. The town has a long history in line with that of the Peloponnese and in the Homeric times belonged to the Kingdom of Pylos, of King Nestor. The mo- dern city has excellent street plan and features all the comforts of a modern urban center, with agricultural and commercial character. It is divided in the old upper town -which has been declared traditional preserved settlement- and in the New (or Down) City, a newly built area that reaches the coast. In the Old City, there are many scattered historical monuments that testify to its history, such as the Castle of Arcadia, the square of Arcadia with the plane tree and the fountains at the en- trance of the castle, the public baths (hammam), and the beautiful, traditional
streets and houses. The New City is a modern city with few traditional elements. There lies the main square, the surrounding streets where the market spreads and most of the shops are located.
