The city of Ioannina is the capital of Epirus and the biggest commercial, intellectual and cultural centre of North-western Greece. The castle of Ali Pasas, the island of “kira Frosyni” (Ms Frosyni”), oracle of Dodona, but also the modern University of Ioannina, constitute sights of the city that combine the traditional with the modern. In the Islet of Ioannina, one of the least inhabited islands in the world, one can visit the Byzantine monasteries and admire splendid frescoes of the era with great technique and themes. In the islet can be also found the house(final shelter of Ali Pasas). Traditional silversmithery and goldsmithery workshops, that in the past bloomed and were famous in East and West, function up to today. The modern development is expressed with the University of Ioannina, the city hospitals, the Water Sports Centre, Egnatia Road, the airport, the hydroplanes, the rapid commercial growth and the expansion of the city.
