Dr Pipina Bonou studied Medicine at the Universtity of Patras (1989-1995) and after completing her General Practice Service in Crete she started her specialisation in Paediatrics. She trained in General Paediatrics, Neonatology and Paediatric Subspecialties in Greece and in the UK and obtained her title in Paediatrics in Greece in 2002. She was also registered at the Specialist Register for Paediatrics in the UK in 2003.
Subsequently she started her career in Paediatric Cardiology, initially as a trainee at the Onassis Cardiac Centre (2002- 2004) and following that in the UK. She was appointed training at the SpR level at Southampton General Hospital (2004) by the Wessex Deanery, at Great Ormond Street Hospital (2004-2005) by the London Deanery and at Evelina Children’s Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Trust (2006-2008) also by the London Deanery.
Her training included more than 500 cardiac catheterisations, more than 3000 echocardiogramms, training in arrhythmias, GUCH (Grown Ups with Congenital Heart Disease) patients, Pulmonary Hypertension and finally in Paediatric Intensive Care and Retrieval Service with focus on the management of Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiothoracic patients.
Her special interests are Pulmonary Hypertension and non-invasive imaging of Congenital Heart Disease including Fetal Echocardiography.
From May 2009 she is working as a Consultant in Paediatric Cardiology at Mitera Children’s Hospital in Athens where she is performing a minimum of 2000 echocaradiogramms in children and adults with Congenital Heart Disease and more than 300 Fetal Echocardiograms per year.
She also has a rich portfolio of activities and pre- sentations at an acade- mic level in Paediatric Cardiology Seminars and Conferences.
