Athens
Athens is the capital and the largest city of Greece. It is one of the oldest cities of the world, centre of arts, knowledge and philosophy, home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum, widely reported as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of Democracy. Athens and especially the historic centre has many attractions including the sacred rock of Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea and the temple of Athena Nike, the ancient neighbourhoods of Athens (Plaka, Monastiraki and Thissio), the Arios Pagos(Court of Cassation), the hill of justice, the Pnyx, the hill of the Republic, the hill of Filopappou, the Ancient Theatre of Herodes Atticus, the Panathenaic Stadium and finally the wonderful landmark buildings of the National Bank of Greece, the Numismatic Museum, the Propylaea, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Dionysius the Areopagite, the Ofthalmiatreio, the Academy, the University of Athens and the National Library.
